Aquaman 2 will wash ashore in 2022, so just hang in there

While you’re all glued to your computer screens watching Michael Cohen testify before Congress in the television event of 2019, Warner Bros. is readying the cinematic event of the future: Aquaman 2. As reported by Deadline, Jason Momoa will be back to shred the seven seas with his trusty trident on December 16, 2022. James Wan will return to direct the sequel to last year’s box office hit, which might even become a 4D cinematic adventure thanks to rising tides and a little thing called climate change. Aquaman co-writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will write the screenplay for the sequel.

Aquaman 2 will presumably also feature the return of Amber Heard as Ariel Mera, Patrick Wilson and his man-bun as Orm, and, if we’re lucky, Dolph Lundgren (who, for whatever stupid reason, wasn’t playing a dolphin). No word yet on whether we’ll see that rad octopus who plays drums again, or Nicole Kidman, for that matter. In the meantime, Warner Bros. is also developing an Aquaman spinoff called The Trench, written by newcomers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald. The spinoff will be a horror film centered around the eponymous monsters–former citizens of Atlantis who were banished to the depths of the ocean, only to return as ravenous ocean-xenomorphs that indiscriminately consume everything in their path.
