Armando Iannucci has a plan to quietly depose Trump and/or replace him with a penguin
As the man behind Veep, The Thick Of It, In The Loop, and The Death Of Stalin, Armando Iannucci knows a thing or two about political satire, and he has used his satirical skills to come up with a clever way to save us all from Donald Trump’s increasingly destructive presidency. He bills it as a “film pitch,” but it’s really more of a The Truman Show pitch involving an elaborate scheme to convince Trump he’s still in power even though he’s been quietly deposed. We’ll let Iannucci explain it:
Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus volunteered to help out, with Iannucci saying that she could replace Trump as the real president, and he then teased that “Hollywood’s interested” in his wacky scheme. It sounds like a joke, but Deadline is reporting that multiple studios are actually interested in turning this idea into a movie—like, a real movie, not a way to kick Trump out of office—and Iannucci already has a “big offer” for the idea.
Whatever happens, Iannucci has also come up with a much more effective way to shut down Trump. In another tweet, he decided that you can replace any photo of Trump with a penguin and the expressions on everyone’s faces will still make sense:
And, of course, he’s right:
We live in a weird time.
