Armie Hammer may play The Lone Ranger to Johnny Depp's Tonto

After Ryan Gosling passed on playing the sleepy-voiced straight man to Johnny Depp, producers have now reportedly moved on to Armie Hammer to take the title role in Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger. Hammer, of course, is best known for making privilege and petulance seem blandly charming in The Social Network as the Winklevoss twins, and most recently signed on to play the prince in Relativity’s Snow White reimagining, which should similarly make good use of his Aryan-master-race charms. Should he agree to put on the Lone Ranger mask, Hammer seems like he’d be a reliably stable foil to Depp’s “French carnival barker meets Little Richard” take on Tonto—or you know, whatever he has planned.
