Arrival is re-arriving in theaters to celebrate its Oscar nominations

It’s not every year that a sci-fi movie gets nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, so to celebrate the honor of being this year’s Inception or Her, Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival will be returning to theaters on Friday, January 27 for a special limited run. For people who did already see the film last year, though, Paramount is throwing in eight whole minutes of what a press release calls “exclusive bonus footage” that includes “thought-provoking commentary and a behind-the-scenes look” at the film, with contributions from Villeneuve, stars Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and “other cast and filmmakers.”

Arrival nabbed a whole bunch of Oscar nominations this morning in addition to Best Picture, including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. It probably won’t win Best Picture, since it’s facing off against a bunch of movies that aren’t sci-fi at all, but maybe it’ll take home a few of those as a consolation prize.
