Asa Butterfield and Britt Robertson to try interplanetary dating in new movie
You ever noticed how specific online dating sites are getting these days? It seems like every other day there’s a new, niche site popping up for singles of very particular types to mingle—there’s one for people of the Christian persuasion, there’s one for people of the Jewish persuasion, there’s one for people of the farmer persuasion. On and on the list goes. And now there will apparently be a site for meeting people on other planets—in a movie, anyway.
In a yet-untitled sci-fi romantic drama, Hugo and Ender’s Game star (and non-Spider-Man) Asa Butterfield will play the first human born on Mars, whose mother, an astronaut, died while giving birth to him. He then sets out looking for love on the internet—which you apparently can’t even escape if you live on another planet—and finds it in the form of a nice Earth girl played by Tomorrowland’s Britt Robertson. Their online bond is so strong that he decides to leave Mars and head to Earth to find her, presumably to meet up for coffee. One can only imagine he’ll feel like a real fool if it turns out she’s a lot more interesting in writing than in person, or if the pictures she sent him of herself are really old or something. Talk about a long ride home!
Gary Oldman and Carla Gugino will round out the cast of the film, which will be directed by Peter Chelsom of Hector And The Search For Happiness and Hannah Montana: The Movie fame, and scripted by 21 and Here Comes The Boom co-writer Allan Loeb.
