Atlanta’s Lakeith Stanfield kind of pulled a Kanye West at Critics Choice Awards

Awards season is kicking into high gear now, with the Critics having made their Choices for the best in film and TV known last night. La La Land led the winners, while Silicon Valley and Atlanta creator Donald Glover took home top honors for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor in a comedy, respectively. But, in a moment right out of their show, Glover’s Atlanta co-star Lakeith Stanfield accepted Silicon Valley’s award for Tom Lassally. Stanfield gave a short and sweet speech, while wearing a captain’s hat, of all things: “I want to thank everybody for honoring us in this way. We worked very hard on Silicon Valley and here we are. Thank you.”

Stanfield yielded the mic to Lassally, who shrugged the whole thing off and said he didn’t know the actor, who also appeared in Dope and Selma. It doesn’t appear that there were any real hard feelings, though Stanfield’s actions are bound to draw comparisons with Kanye West’s penchant for popping up on stage during other people’s speeches. But Stanfield just appeared to be having a bit of fun, even though he might have remained in character a little too long.
