Audiences can learn how to cause a damn scene at a graveyard as Steel Magnolias returns to theaters
For those who have yet to witness the glory of Olympia Dukakis begging Sally Field to smack Shirley MacLaine, fear not. Ahead of its 30-year anniversary, the iconic 1989 film Steel Magnolias is heading to theaters for a limited engagement. Per a recent press release, Fathom Events and TCM Big Screen Classics will bring the unabashedly Southern, star-studded affair to more than 600 U.S. theaters for three days only: May 19, 21, and 22.
Starring Field, MacLaine, Dukakis, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, and a roster of others, Steel Magnolias is a dramatic comedy adapted from the Robert Harling play of the same name. It remains one of the most quotable, critically acclaimed films and one of the early symbols of female-empowered cinema. Tickets are currently on sale through Fathom Events’ website, if you feel like sitting front row for all the suburban Louisiana gossip.
