Authorized Fleetwood Mac documentary to profile the band's, let's call it volatile, dynamic

With its decades-long legacy of sex, drugs, inter-band infidelity, firings, resignations, lawsuits, and, oh yeah, amazing rock songs, Fleetwood Mac is the template for a classic rock and roll story. Formed (with an almost completely different lineup) in England in 1967, Fleetwood Mac, fronted by drummer Mick Fleetwood, truly became legendary under its best-known roster of Fleetwood, John and Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks, with their magnum opus 1977 album Rumours going on to sell over 40 million copies.

Along the way, the band members’ tangled romantic history, creative battles, and substance abuse issues have passed into pop culture legend, with the moderately fictionalized feature Daisy Jones & The Six merely scratching the mirrored surface of the real Fleetwood Mac’s 1970’s genius and excesses. Now the surviving members of the band (Christine McVie died in 2022 at the age of 79) have  reunited once more to tell their own story on film.

Apple Original Films’ Fleetwood Mac: The Chain promises to capture “the complicated yet enduring bond at the heart of Fleetwood Mac,” under the direction of five-time Oscar nominated filmmaker Frank Marshall (The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Pete Townshend: Behind Blue Eyes). Fleetwood, John McVie, Buckingham, and Nicks are all on board, somehow (Buckingham most recently sued the others after being fired from the group’s 2018 reunion tour), as the film attempts to present a coherent portrait of one of the most tumultuous and influential rock bands ever.

Fleetwood Mac: The Chain premieres on Apple TV on Friday, January 29, 2027 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Rumours‘ release.
