Ava DuVernay is reportedly making a Prince documentary for Netflix
Ava DuVernay, the filmmaker behind Selma, Netflix’s 13th, and the upcoming Central Park Five series, is reportedly working on another big project for Netflix—at least according to multiple sources who know about this sort of thing. This comes from Variety, which says the film (or maybe series?) has the “full cooperation” of Prince’s estate, and it will feature “interviews, archival footage, and photos” provided by the estate. Netflix and the Prince estate haven’t offered any official confirmations about this project, meaning we don’t have a lot of concrete information, but Variety’s unnamed sources have apparently indicated that this project might be a “multiple-part documentary” that will “cover the artist’s entire life.”
This comes as the Prince estate has been eager to do something with what must be a massive archive of Prince-related stuff that left behind when he died, since the estate just announced over the summer that a bunch of Prince albums will be getting re-released alongside new collections of singles, B-sides, remixes, live tracks, and music videos. In other words, there’s a lot of Prince stuff in the works.
