Axl Rose to take over as lead vocalist on AC/DC’s summer tour
Who would have pegged “Summer 2016” as the ideal time to see Axl Rose in concert? And yet the Guns N’ Roses founders is currently in the middle of the band’s headlining reunion set at this year’s Coachella, and has just lined up another gig that’ll be eating up the better part of his May and June. Rumors have been swirling for a while now that Rose might step in to help AC/DC—whose lead singer, Brian Johnson, was recently forced to stop touring or risk permanent hearing loss—finish their summer tour. Now the band has confirmed the pinch hit, with Rose expected to join the rockers on the highway to hell (or Lisbon, Portugal, as the case may be.)
Rose will join the band as lead vocalist for the 12 dates on their upcoming run in Europe, before heading back to the States for GNR’s “Not In This Lifetime” stadium tour. Once that’s over, he’ll rejoin AC/DC for the U.S. shows that were postponed after Johnson’s decision to stop touring was announced. It’s a heavy workload for Rose, demanding a lot of dedication and attention. We can only keep our fingers crossed, and hope that the markets he’s playing in are free of English copies of his personal siren song, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze.
