Backstreet Boys set up Las Vegas residency, because they want it that way

Backstreet’s back, all right? Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, and Kevin Richardson—known to the world as the Backstreet Boys—have announced that they’ll be taking up a Las Vegas residency next March. According to Littrell, Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life—situated at the Axis Theater at the Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino—will be like a regular BSB show “on steroids.”

Minus Richardson—who departed the group from 2006 to 2012—the Backstreet Boys have now been touring and recording together for more than 20 years. Recently, they made headlines by starring in Syfy’s boyband-themed zombie western Dead 7penned by Carter—and last released an album—In A World Like This—back in 2013.

The residency announcement comes just a few years after one of the group’s biggest contemporaries, Britney Spears, launched her own massively successful stint in Vegas. Britney Spears: Piece Of Me—staged in the same venue as the upcoming BSB show— has been a major stepping stone in the revitalization of Spears’ career, giving fans a place to congregate, and reminding the world of her talent as a dancer and performer. Now, presumably, Carter and his crew are seeking a similar third-decade bump.
