The biggest Spanish-language artist in the world has toured the U.S. plenty already, and is now setting his sights elsewhere.

Bad Bunny doesn't see the need for U.S. tour, concert movies

Bad Bunny is truly a global star, and he has the numbers to back it up. His 2022 album Un Verano Sin Ti is the most-streamed album on Spotify, and he became the first artist who doesn’t perform in English to top Spotify’s most-streamed artists of the year list. The Puerto Rican artist does have a ton of fans in the mainland United States, but he has many more in countries across Latin America and Europe, to the point that it really doesn’t matter much to him whether he brings his tour to the mainland U.S. of A.

The artist spoke about this in a new cover story for Variety ahead of his 30-night residency at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan. Later this year, he’ll embark on the Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour, which notably skips the mainland United States in favor of Latin America, Japan, Australia, and much of Europe. When asked about the decision to avoid the U.S. and Canada, the artist, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is blunt: “It’s unnecessary.” As Variety points out, he’s performed plenty in the U.S. over the past few years, and he probably will again. But for now, his focus is elsewhere, specifically his native Puerto Rico.

But if any fans stateside are hoping to catch the Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour in the movie theater à la the Eras Tour, they might be out of luck again, as this is another thing that is not necessary for the star. “We record almost all his shows, but we’ve made it a point to not publish concert footage content that stays up and lives there forever,” says manager Noah Assad. However, “unnecessary” does not mean it’ll never happen. “We’ve had conversations about doing a film for the residency, and we are having our conversations about doing it for the world tour, but there’s no pressure on us.” He adds, “He wants to create memories and share emotions with the individuals willing to listen.” So if you end up at a Bad Bunny concert in the coming months, don’t end up wishing you took more photos—they may have to last you a while.
