Bad day for sinnin’ as Mistresses and Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll both get canceled

Like repentant sinners desperately trying to get right before meeting their god, the networks are tossing out their TV vices today. Deadline is reporting that ABC has canceled its soapy summer drama Mistresses, while Variety says Denis Leary’s Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is getting a similarly puritanical boot.

Mistresses—which starred Yunjin Kim and Rochelle Aytes as women trying to navigate a complex series of romantic relationships, from both inside and outside the bounds of marriage—has been a regular fixture of ABC’s summer schedule for years, persisting even after the departure of co-star Alyssa Milano. But the show—based on a British series of the same name, and developed by Gossip Girl producer K.J. Steinberg—will be ending after its fourth season, which wrapped up earlier this week.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, meanwhile, finished its sophomore season on FX back on September 1, with a cliffhanger that will now serve as the series finale. The show starred writer-creator Leary as an aging musician, fighting to stay relevant from beneath the burdens of fading fame, various temptations, and his own giant rock star hair.
