Barbershop 3 to return for a shave and a haircut
In today’s world of movie franchises, three is the magic number. Like The Hobbit before it, the Barbershop series is now set to become a trilogy of epic proportions. According to Deadline, MGM is currently in negotiations with Ice Cube to reprise his role as the owner of a barbershop on Chicago’s South Side for a third installment in the series. The last, Barbershop 2: Back In Business, premiered way back in 2004, which means the new film will have 10 years of backstory to explore, either through intricately woven flashbacks or through Eddie mumbling, “Y’all still don’t know nothing, even though I have been talking to you for literally 10 years.”
Once Ice Cube is in place, the production will reportedly move on to trying to lure back Cedric The Entertainer and Queen Latifah, who already stared in her own spinoff, Beauty Shop. Of course, a third Barbershop will likely just be a placeholder for a fourth movie, because at that point the series can be packaged together as a “Barbershop Quartet” and everyone involved can feel immensely pleased.
