Basement takes on the world’s hottest peppers in a hot-pepper-eating challenge

While it seems that getting a band to willingly subject themselves to a hot-pepper-eating challenge would be a tough sell, Ipswich, England’s Basement actually proposed the idea to The A.V. Club. Given that the band seemed to have no capsaicin-related fears, we were happy to oblige. After putting together a five-pepper gauntlet—which included the Carolina Reaper, purportedly the hottest in the world—Basement signed waivers and got down to business. Though the band rose to the challenge, it wasn’t without a struggle.
