Bask in the puns of Pet Symmetry’s Pets Hounds

Chicago’s Pet Symmetry isn’t one to pass up a pun, so when it came time to release its debut album, the band elected to put its own spin on a Beach Boys classic by calling it Pets Hounds. Though the band’s got a knack for jokes—and long song titles—it’s similarly skilled at offering up power-pop songs. Featuring Evan Weiss of Into It. Over It. and Their/They’re /There, Dowsing’s Erik Czaja, and Mountains For Clouds’ Marcus Nuccio, the band’s pedigree speaks volumes, but Pets Hounds shows that Pet Symmetry isn’t resting on the scene from which it was bred. The A.V. Club is streaming all of Pets Hounds in advance of its May 12 release on Asian Man Records, so get those last minute pre-orders in or forever lament missing out on the band’s limited-edition dog bowl.
