Remember when Batman and Catwoman teamed up to take down Bane in The Dark Knight Rises? Imagine that as an anime and relocated to 1930s Shanghai and you might come close to the animated short Wolf Smoke Studio has created for Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block. Batman has gone through many cartoon iterations over the years, but few have gone in such a radical direction as this short, which features a Batman who literally turns into bats. The action is spectacular (Catwoman’s whip has never been deadlier), the designs are innovative, and the animation is crisp and fluid, resulting in four minutes that will leaves viewers clamoring for more. The Dark Knight has a new cartoon on the horizon, but hopefully Wolf Smoke will continue to produce shorts with the Shanghai Batman. Or hell, just give the character another cartoon series. He’s in about 14 comics every month, so why can’t he have two TV shows?
