BBC may be cooking up a Mary Berry show to compete with Great British Bake Off
Well, this is getting juicy (or should we say moist?). There’s no need to mourn the loss of Mary Berry’s judgmental opinions about cakes quite yet, even though she announced yesterday she was leaving The Great British Bake Off as it moved to Channel 4. The Telegraph is reporting that the BBC may be creating a new show starring Berry alongside charmingly dorky hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, who also abandoned ship. Paul Hollywood will remain all by his lonesome with GBBO, which now may face the threat of a competitor.
A new vehicle for Berry was clearly in the cards—when she revealed her departure, BBC One controller Charlotte Moore said: “I can’t wait to cook up more unmissable shows with her in the future.” This is still rather preliminary, but it should be noted that Berry doesn’t just do baked goods. In a statement she bid “farewell to soggy bottoms,” but surely there are other culinary infractions for her to criticize.
