Beastie Boys settle lawsuit with GoldieBlox over “Girls”

The Beastie Boys have settled their lawsuit with toy company GoldieBlox. The company—which used the Boys’ track “Girls” in a commercial last year without the group’s permission—has to both issue a public apology and kick over a portion of its revenues to charities selected by the Beastie Boys, benefitting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education for girls. While that’s probably not the outcome GoldieBlox was going for when the company ganked “Girls” to supposedly “break down gender stereotypes” related to toys, hopefully the company can live with handing over some of its money toward charities that support their common mission.
