Beauty And The Beast teaser beats The Force Awakens’ viewing record

Apparently, people are more interested in young women civilizing brute men than finding their place in the galaxy, as Mashable reports that the viewing record for the Beauty And The Beast teaser has eclipsed the previous record set by Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens.

Disney’s first peek at its live-action Beauty And The Beast nabbed 91.8 million views in the first 24 hours, besting the 88 million views garnered by the second teaser for The Force Awakens. Considering that was the Star Wars teaser that ended with a grinning Harrison Ford standing inside the Millennium Falcon for the first time in decades and proclaiming, “Chewie, we’re home,” it’s quite impressive for Beauty And The Beast to overtake it with just some candles and a wilting rose.

Of course, just as feature films and short films have their own categories in awards consideration, so do full-length trailers and teaser trailers when it comes to viewing records. In that respect, the full-length trailer for The Force Awakens still wears the crown with 112 million views in 24 hours, but it’s possible the full-length Beauty And The Beast preview will beat that too, once everyone gets a look at the adorable talking tea set. Of course, it’s all the same to Disney, which also can brag about pretty respectable trailer-viewing counts for the likes of Captain America: Civil War (61 million) and Avengers: Age Of Ultron (34 million).
