Beavis And Butt-Head Do America

The reason Beavis and Butt-Head has been so successful on television has a lot to do with the way creator Mike Judge injected wit and thoughtfulness into his show, making it a lowball study of lower-middle-class stupidity. Sadly, that sensibility went out the window when MTV decided to whip a dead cash cow. When thugs steal the kids' TV set and force them to venture out into the wide world to get it back, they force them into a place they never belonged. The humor in Do America isn't about laughing at two willfully idiotic kids who make unfunny poop jokes; it's about unfunny poop jokes. Toss in the requisite hip-because-we-marketed-it-that-way soundtrack and the tired game of guessing who did the guest voices, and it adds up to another prefab youth-culture event and a mediocre movie.
