Behold Russell Crowe's disturbing Roger Ailes in first teaser for Showtime's The Loudest Voice
Watch out, Christian Bale: Russell Crowe has achieved his final form as former Fox News chief Roger Ailes in the first teaser for The Loudest Voice. The upcoming Showtime miniseries explores Ailes’ rise to power at the conservative-leaning network after he was hired by Rupert Murdoch in 1996. Ailes ran Fox News for almost 20 years, until 2016 when he resigned following sexual harassment and misconduct allegations. Those allegations figure into The Loudest Voice, as seen in a brief shot of Crowe’s Ailes touching a noticeably uncomfortable Gretchen Carlson, played by Naomi Watts.
Based on the Gabriel Sherman bestseller The Loudest Voice In The Room, the Showtime series also stars Sienna Miller as Roger Ailes’ wife, Elizabeth, and Aleksa Palladino (Halt And Catch Fire) as Ailes’ assistant, Judy Laterza, with Seth MacFarlane as former PR chief Brian Lewis, Simon McBurney as Rupert Murdoch, and Annabelle Wallis as Fox News booker Laurie Luhn. Sherman and Spotlight’s Tom McCarthy wrote the premiere, with Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Stephen Frears among the series’ directors. Here’s the official synopsis for The Loudest Voice, which debuts Sunday, June 30 on Showtime:
In today’s politically charged media landscape, no figure looms larger, even after his passing, than Roger Ailes, molding Fox News into a force that irrevocably changed the conversation about the highest levels of government.
