Bell Biv Devoe returns with new single, more of that new jack swing
’90s Fest has come and gone, with plenty of Sugar Ray but nary a hint of that new jack swing. But Bell Biv DeVotees who might have felt left out in the cold can now rejoice, for their idols have returned. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Poison trio will drop its fourth studio album, Three Stripes=, on January 27, 2017. The former New Edition members have also released a new single ahead of that release. “Run” is the first single from Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe in 15 years, and picks up right where they left off.
Bell’s smooth lead vocals are once again paired with Bivins and DeVoe’s intermittent rap stylings, and laid out over The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize” on the Erick Sermon-produced track. It’s no “Do Me,” but it’ll do for now. Three Stripes= is the follow-up to 2001’s BBD, which was co-produced by the band and Timbaland. The Grammy nominees are also in the midst of the BET miniseries, The New Edition Story, which follows the rise of the proto-boy banders. Empire’s Bryshere Y. Gray leads the cast for the series, which is set to debut sometime next year.
