Bella Thorne will be allergic to sunlight in the YA adaptation Midnight Sun
Those suffering from young adult vampire story withdrawal could potentially score some relief next summer: An adaptation of Midnight Sun, a 2006 Japanese film, is in the works with Bella Thorne (The DUFF) and Patrick Schwarzenegger (of the upcoming Scout’s Guide To The Apocalypse, which is a real thing) as star-crossed teen lovers.
Thorne will star as Katie, a 17-year-old with a rare disease that makes sunlight potentially lethal for her, kind of like a vampire. (We know what you’re thinking, but it’s not lupus.) She spends her days indoors and ventures out at night, like some other unholy nocturnal beings we’re familiar with, eventually falling in love with Schwarzenegger’s Charlie. The Katie character was a busker in the original film, but with Scott Speer, who produced one of the Step Up films and directed a few episodes of Finding Carter, at the helm, hopefully she’ll end up popping and locking her way into Charlie’s heart.
