What lies beyond a mascot’s mask has long been a source of mystery. Are they as happy as the mask’s smile might suggest? Or is there a secret scowl hiding behind there? Last night, the New York Mets got demolished by the Milwaukee Brewers, apparently pissing off Mr. Met to such a degree that no costume could hide his anger.

Yes, that’s Forbes’ No. 1 mascot of all time flipping the bird to a couple of rowdy fans. the Mets’ official Twitter account sent out the requisite apology.
But Mr. Mets’ fans are calling bullshit. Have you seen Mr. Mets’ hands? They’re Simpsons’ hands.

This might just be the beginning, however. In customary fashion, Twitter users have been digging up some of Mr. Mets’ other offenses to paint a grander portrait of the mascot.
As of now, Mr. Met has yet to comment, though rumors say a new, more family-friendly Mr. Met will be appearing at tonight’s game.
