While the Internet remains the Internet over the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman, the decision has received the all-important approval of at least one important contingent: the nation’s Matt Damon who, among 100 percent of Matt Damons surveyed, believes Ben Affleck will do a fine job as Batman, based on his unassailable history of being Matt Damon’s friend, Ben Affleck. “I think it will be great. It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the Internet. I just think it's kind of funny,” Damon told Times Of India of his beliefs in Affleck’s abilities and that you are hilarious, sitting there with your adorably differing opinions and making them known to others.
Your objections amuse Matt Damon—as does the frequently suggested, typically sarcastic notion that this means he’ll probably play Robin, to which Damon laughs, “I am a little older than Ben. I never saw Robin as older than Batman… It’s safe to say I won't be Robin.” (However, it is safe to say that Matt Damon loves Indian food. “I just love anything that's curried. I love spice too. I like it a bit hot,” Damon said in the same article, in another important endorsement.)
Still, Damon finds the whole Robin idea “really funny,” much like the idea that anyone would care this much about Batman: “You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set,” Damon adds of the role that is apparently so easy even Affleck can play it—not like if he had to go put on a king hat and start shouting about rain. “If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that."
So please, Batman fans, take comfort in Matt Damon’s personal assurances that his friend Affleck can totally whisper in kind of a gruff voice with a cowl on his head for your little Batman movie. Or don't, because it's all pretty funny. [via Coming Soon]
