Warner Bros. is showing more support for its soon-to-be-Batman, developing what it hopes will be a directorial and starring vehicle for Ben Affleck. The as-yet-untitled film concerns a bunch of mercenaries sent to kill an African warlord who has been brutalizing his own people, and is expected to be a big-budget, high-profile film for the successful director and actor of questionable judgement. First-time screenwriter Will Staples, whose biggest credit thus far is the video game Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, will script the geopolitical thrilled that could be thematically similar to Argo, in that it explores how even the most well-intentioned plans can have unintended consequences. Or it could be another Reindeer Games. Time will tell.
