Ben Affleck wins Directors Guild Award on unstoppable path to getting snubbed at the Oscars
Continuing a campaign that has already included big wins at the Critics Choice, Screen Actors and Producers Guild, and Golden Globe Awards, Ben Affleck and Argo took top honors at the Directors Guild Awards on Saturday, making him a shoo-in to be royally swindled at the Oscars after not even getting nominated. “I don’t think this makes me a real director, but I think it means I’m on my way,” Affleck said in his acceptance speech, no doubt muttering just out of microphone range, “…to getting completely shafted by the Oscars, who apparently think some movies just direct themselves.” The night’s other big winners were Looper director Rian Johnson, recognized for his work on the “Fifty-One” episode of Breaking Bad, Game Change’s Jay Roach, and Girls’ Lena Dunham—none of whom are getting Oscars either, so don’t feel so bad, Ben Affleck.
