Ben Folds’ new record has an orchestra, no bass, and barely any drums

Ben Folds has teamed up with a six-piece orchestra for his latest album. The as-yet untitled LP was recorded in two weeks and features collaborations with yMusic, a group of young classical musicians from New York City. The record—which Folds describes as having “odd instrumentation,” including no bass and barely any drumming—will also feature the first recording of Folds’ “Concerto For Piano And Orchestra,” which he premiered last year in Nashville.

Folds recorded the album in New York and Los Angeles, as well as in Nashville’s RCA Studio A, which he helped save last year. Folds has already confirmed an appearance at this year’s Bonnaroo Festival and will announce additional tour dates soon.
