Benedict Cumberbatch disagrees with Martin Freeman's pessimistic Sherlock views
Back in March, Sherlock star Martin Freeman suggested that the show’s fans had loved it too much, with their expectations eventually becoming so high that it became “kind of impossible” for Freeman to have any fun making the show. Combined with the poor reception of the show’s fourth season, and it all basically soured Freeman on ever returning to the show.
The same can’t be said for his co-star, though, with Benedict Cumberbatch telling The Telegraph (via Entertainment Weekly) that it’s “pretty pathetic” for Freeman to let people’s expectations get to him that much. He acknowledges that “there’s a level of obsession” among Sherlock fans that makes them feel like they own it “even though we’re the ones making it,” but Cumberbatch says he isn’t as bothered by it as Freeman seems to be.
It seems even more unlikely that another season of Sherlock will happen now, given the comments from both of its stars, but it also seems similarly unlikely that Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange and Freeman’s Everett Ross will meet up and show off their American accents in a future Marvel movie.
