Bernie Sanders had a barbershop chat with Killer Mike
As some people know, Killer Mike introduced Bernie Sanders to a crowd of 5,000 supporters in Atlanta last month. The rapper, who is famously suspicious of the political system as a whole, told the crowd this:
I have said in many a rap, I don’t trust the church or the government, a democrat, republican, a pope, a bishop, or those other men. But after spending five hours tonight—after spending five hours with someone who has spent the last 50 years radically fighting for your rights and mine, I can tell you that am very proud tonight to announce the next president of the United States, Senator Bernie Sanders.
After that, the pair went out for for lunch at Atlanta’s Busy Bee Cafe. That lunch was pretty well documented. We’ve since learned that the pair then headed to Mike’s barbershop, The SWAG Shop, and talked politics for several hours.
The footage of that conversation came out yesterday, and was divided into six segments, titled “Economic Freedom,” “Social Justice,” “Rigged Economy,” “Free Health Care: It Ain’t a Big Deal,” “This Country Was Started As An Act Of Protest,” and “Democrats Win When People Vote.” (It’s all below, for your viewing pleasure.) Among other things, the pair talk about why Americans are afraid of socialism, why people vote against their own best interests, the danger of creating political dynasties, and what it’s like to be old in their respective fields. (Though, to be fair, Sanders is actually old by most standards.) The results are both amusing and enlightening, and even though you know it happened, it’s still pretty neat to see Killer Mike chat up a presidential candidate.
