Best part of Trophy Wife to be best part of ABC’s Ken Jeong pilot
The cancellation of Trophy Wife was a loss on several counts: The loss of a great sitcom ensemble, the loss of a distinctly funny TV depiction of a blended family, the loss of Marcia Gay Harden referring to a popular social-networking platform as “Instant-Gram.” Most tragically, the end of Trophy Wife silenced the comedic voice of a generation that was too young to be up watching Trophy Wife: Albert Tsai’s Bert Harrison, the brightest spot in a cast of child actors who proved that ABC has learned from its Modern Family casting mistakes. Today, however, the millions clad in “You’re not even a real grown-up—your car is full of garbage and shoes” T-shirts have reason to rejoice, as Deadline reports that Tsai has been cast as Ken Jeong’s son in the ABC pilot Dr. Ken.
This will be the second time Tsai and Jeong have worked together, as they both appeared in the fifth-season premiere of Hot In Cleveland. Coupled with the actor’s upcoming arc on Fresh Off The Boat (the first episode of which is named after his character, as it should be), Dr. Ken is the next step toward ABC inevitably changing its name to the “All BERT! Channel.” That won’t make up for the network snuffing out Trophy Wife before its time, but it’s a start.
