BET orders late-night talk show from Chris Rock and Robin Thede
The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore is no more, but at least one of its alums has found a new showcase for her talents. According to The Hollywood Reporter, former Nightly Show head writer and contributor Robin Thede will host her own late-night talk show, The Rundown With Robin Thede, on BET. The satirical news show has picked up a 24-episode order, and will have a half-hour runtime, during which Thede will “take on the week’s headlines in politics and pop culture with a fast-paced, no-holds-barred show that will feature social commentary, sketch comedy and pop culture parodies.”
Thede will executive produce her talk show along with Chris Rock, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Skidmore, and Genevieve Aniello. In her all-too-brief Nightly Show tenure, the comedian-actress made history as the first black woman head writer on a late-night talk show. Thede previously wrote for The Queen Latifah Show as well as guest starred on several sitcoms, and she’s also got a background in improv, so she‘s poised to more than hold her own on her own. The Rundown With Robin Thede is set to premiere in the fall.
