BET will not be airing Nicki Minaj's "Stupid Hoe," thank you very much
Carving out a rare four minutes in which Nicki Minaj cannot be heard singing something, BET has banned Minaj’s “Stupid Hoe” video from its airwaves, forcing millions of curious fans to resort to more roundabout measures to see a music video, such as scrolling to the bottom of this page. BET has yet to offer any specifics regarding the reasons it branded the video as “too explicit,” but obviously that suggests any number of factors: a dearth of nuance, its emphasis on telling over showing, a condescending lack of faith in the audience to make its own inferences, etc. And not that you’d necessarily notice amid all the creepy, exaggerated cartoon eyes and the rapid edits that are already responsible for a worldwide 10 percent increase in epileptics, but Minaj says the words “stupid hoe” approximately 52 times, the bleeping of which would essentially turn the video into Morse code (spelling out “S-T-O-P-P-L-E-A-S-E-S-T-O-P”). Also, there is a lot of ass.
