Though a handful of Breaking Bad characters have popped up on AMC’s prequel/spin-off series Better Call Saul, they’ve mostly been low-level villains that the original show dispatched relatively early on. Walter White and Jesse Pinkman haven’t popped up, either because they canonically don’t meet Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman for a few years or because they’re both just doing boring stuff at this point in their lives, but the show is now being pretty direct about teasing the arrival of another iconic Breaking Bad character: Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Fring.
Today, AMC released a fake commercial for Los Pollos Hermanos, the chicken restaurant owned by Fring in the Breaking Bad universe, and it even includes an appearance from Fring with a guarantee that you’ll like his new curly fries:
Just in case the message there was too subtle, Esposito himself tweeted the video out, adding “I’m back!!” and that “the rise of Gus is coming.”
This all comes after the team behind Better Call Saul snuck a clever Gus Fring teaser into the episode titles of the show’s second season, but creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have been adamant that Fring still might not show up for a while. Whether he’s there or not, Better Call Saul will return to AMC this spring.
