Bikini Kill forms label, reissues old records to the delight of riot grrrls everywhere
Rebellious young women have something to growl about today as the members of Bikini Kill, the foremothers of the Riot Grrrl movement, have announced the creation of their own label. The aptly named Bikini Kill Records will begin by slowly reissuing all the band’s previously available material, as well as old demos, practice tapes, films, unreleased songs, and records by more modern practitioners of that style such as The Frumpies and Casual Dots.
Twenty years after its release, the reissue of Bikini Kill’s self-titled EP hits physical stores this fall—perhaps a little shinier, but still as gritty as ever. And the EP, along with the rest of Bikini Kill’s catalog, has been made available today for download via the label’s website, as well as iTunes and eMusic.
