Steve Martin has just released a thoroughly charming video for his thoroughly charming new single, “Caroline,” off his latest collaboration with the Steep Canyon Rangers. He’s rounded up fellow Saturday Night Live players Cecily Strong and Bill Hader to act out the break-up at the heart of the song. Directed by Brian Petchers (who also did Soulja Boy’s “In My System”), the video shows Strong and Hader’s romance going sour, thanks in part to her wandering eye. Hader spends most of its runtime pining over Strong, who’s busy Instagramming her new dudes every chance she gets.
Martin plucks his way through the boisterous tune, which is the lead single for The Long-Awaited Album, due out September 22 on Rounder Records. The album’s a mix of bluegrass and Americana, and also features a Christmas song with Titanic’s Victor Garber (1997 Week lives on here at The A.V. Club).
