Bill Hader, B.J. Novak, and Nasim Pedrad to guest star on The Mindy Project
The Mindy Project has locked down some of its guest stars for next season, and they’re looking good. Fresh off her run as a murder mother in season one of Scream Queens, Nasim Pedrad comes to The Mindy Project to play Leo’s pediatrician, who hopefully won’t raise Mindy and Danny’s child to be a masked murderer the way she did with Lea Michele and Nick Jonas. (Do people care about Scream Queens spoilers? Do people care about Scream Queens?) “I’ve been dying to write for her forever,” Kaling said of Pedrad, who also recurs on Fox’s New Girl. “She fits so perfectly in our world.”
The rest of season five’s guest stars are familiar faces to the Mindy world. Bill Hader will return as Mindy’s heartbreaker ex-boyfriend Tom McDougall, who has been around since season one. B.J. Novak, Kaling’s The Office co-star and certified bestie (it’s a tier), will also return as Latin professor Jaime, one of Mindy’s love interests from season one who chose his best friend (again, it’s a tier, not a person) Lucy over Mindy. Kaling teased that Novak, who is also an executive producer on the series, is returning to season five for a “juicy little arc.” Creator and showrunner Mindy Kaling and executive producer Matt Warburton announced the new additions at the Television Critics Association Hulu presentation on Friday.
At the panel, it was also announced that Bryan Greenberg (How To Make It In America) will be joining the cast of season five as a new pediatric nurse. Blood & Oil’s Rebecca Rittenhouse will also star as fresh blood at Shulman & Associates. Kaling and Warburton also teased that Chris Messina’s Danny Castellano will have a presence in some capacity: “He’s still in the world of the show, so fans don’t have to worry,” Kaling said. Season five of The Mindy Project debuts on Hulu on October 4 and will consist of 16 episodes, which means roughly about 75 new love interests.
