Bill Hader goes deep in new Barry season two trailer

Bill Hader fans may have been bummed out to learn the actor wouldn’t be appearing in the new season of Documentary Now!, but it’s for good reason: Hader was a little preoccupied filming the second season of his fantastic HBO series Barry, and there’s a brand new, full-length trailer to show off the hilarious and surprisingly poignant fruits of his labor. And speaking of labor, Barry has taken a job in a sporting goods store to support himself now that he’s determined to leave the assassin world behind.

Of course, that world isn’t going to let him out so easy. Barry’s former boss (Stephen Root) is back, as is Barry MVP (after Hader, obviously) NoHo Hank. Root was phenomenal last season, doing what he does best as we watched him slide from humorous, genial pal to sinister and highly dangerous wackadoo. And Anthony Carrigan stole every second of every scene he was in as NoHo Hank, a bizarrely friendly and eccentric member of the Chechen mob. Also returning for season two are Sarah Goldberg as Sally, Barry’s love interest from acting class, and Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau, Barry’s acting coach. And that brings us back to where season one left off, as Barry handily (but with immense guilt) disposed of Gene’s girlfriend, Detective Janice Moss (Paula Newsome), who was getting a little too close to figuring out that Barry was the assassin she’d been looking for.

The second season of Barry premieres March 31 on HBO.
