Billboard names TV actress Lady Gaga its 2015 Woman Of The Year
Ensuring that we can all stop crossing our fingers and bating our breaths, Billboard magazine has announced its selection for the 2015 Woman Of The Year. In an apparent effort to change things up from the whole “recognizing noteworthy musical accomplishments that happened over the course of the year” thing, though, the award is being given to Lady Gaga, an unquestionably talented performer who spent most of 2015 working as an actress on FX’s American Horror Story: Hotel. Outside of a noteworthy appearance at the Oscars, Gaga’s musical output this year took what could be seen as the homeopathic approach to sonic success, with a music video and a Tony Bennett duet standing in for an album or other major musical output. (In contrast, Gaga’s 2014 predecessor for the role, Taylor Swift, coasted through 2015 by merely releasing one of the most successful pop albums of all time.)
Gaga is only one of several performers who will be honored at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, which will be presented in a ceremony airing on Lifetime on December 18. There’s no word yet on who the other honorees will be, though, or what non-musical fields they’ll have earned their awards by working in.
