Billy Corgan pulls off heel turn, files lawsuit against his own wrestling company

In a rather mysterious storyline that will hopefully start making more sense as we get closer to the next big pay-per-view event, Billy Corgan has stepped into the black wrestling trunks of a villain and pulled off what the wrestling world calls a “heel turn.” That means he’s a bad guy now, and the playful, crowd-pleasing, and hashtag-hating Corgan we all knew and loved has been replaced with a more nefarious Corgan who probably does a lot more trash-talking and likes to hit his opponents with chairs all the time—or at least that’s how wrestling brand TNA probably feels about him now.

According to PWInsider (via Spin), Corgan has just filed a lawsuit against TNA Wrestling—a company that Corgan himself became the president of earlier this year. That on its own is a little strange, but it gets weirder: Corgan has also requested that the lawsuit be sealed, meaning any specific details about the case are currently being kept under wraps. Furthermore, the lawsuit names TNA owner Dixie Carter and her husband Serg Salinas as defendants and includes a restraining order against them. That means he’s taking on everybody, and we don’t know why. The PWInsider story notes that Corgan has been trying to buy TNA outright and suggests that there have been “obvious tensions” between Corgan and Carter, but unless he tried to pull off some big takeover move that backfired in an awful way, it’s unclear why he’d sue Carter and TNA.

Basically, struggling wrestling company TNA brought in fan-favorite superstar Billy “The Iron Corgan” Corgan to give them a competitive edge. They formed a tag-team powerhouse that wasn’t quite strong enough to toss the biggest guy out of the ring, but it still kicked its share of ass until some bad blood between The Iron Corgan and TNA caused a split. Now TNA and The Iron Corgan are feuding, but they’re not doing it in the ring or in front of the cameras backstage, they’re doing it quietly and in private. Clearly, this flies in the face of everything that professional wrestling stands for, and we can only hope that The Iron Corgan and TNA decide to settle this dispute the right way (a no-holds-barred cage match to the death).
