Billy Eichner to get loud, horny in romantic comedy from Judd Apatow

Billy Eichner’s still doing his thing on the street, but the blunt-force comedian is positively swimming in high-profile acting gigs of late. Following his strong starring turn on Hulu’s Difficult People, Eichner pushed his boundaries as a utility player on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story and scored a plum gig voicing Timon in the upcoming Lion King reboot. Now, Deadline reports that Eichner will lead a romantic comedy for Universal.

The film, which will follow “two men who have commitment problems and are attempting a relationship,” will be directed by comedy veteran Nicholas Stoller, who cut his teeth helming Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Neighbors. Eichner will write in addition to starring in the feature, just as he’s slated to do with FX’s upcoming animated comedy Time Travelin’ Jerk.

Backing the entire endeavor is Judd Apatow, who announced just last week that he’d be directing a comedy of his own in the coming year. That one, a semi-autobiographical vehicle for Pete Davidson, is slated to open in 2020. Eichner’s project will arrive, we imagine, whenever he goddamned wants it to.
