Black Metal Man blends 16-bit gaming action with Bathory and Burzum

Fans of both Burzum and 16-bit games, Black Metal Man is for you. The new iPhone game purports to be the “first Black Metal videogame,” though its trailer makes it look a lot like Super Mario Bros. but with more spontaneous combustion and blast beats. Released by SinSquid Games, Black Metal Man follows the quest of one corpse-painted young man as he flees “from the light” and fights “to reach the depths of hell.”

While the game might bum out metal purists with its non-black metal specific references—“slide the lightning,” and “raining blood,” as opposed to church burning and Bathory—but non-heads may be able to enjoy the gameplay, which appears to just involve running, jumping, and headbanging, all the while looking a little bit like Danzig.
