Black Panther is now the U.S.'s most successful superhero movie ever
Disney and Marvel managed to snag yet another box office record from themselves this weekend, with THR reporting that Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther is now the most successful superhero movie—in terms of domestic box office returns, anyway—of all time. The Chadwick Boseman-starring blockbuster blew past The Avengers this weekend, having now netted more than $600 million in North America alone.
Coogler’s film still has a ways—about $300 million—to go before it can score the record on the international scene, though; at $1.2 billion international, it’s currently sitting at fourth place, behind Iron Man 3, Age Of Ultron, and the original Avengers. (With all numbers unadjusted for inflation.) And, of course, Infinity War is now just a little more than a month away from its release; spurred, at least in part, by the building excitement for T’Challa and his Wakandan brethren, who’ll feature heavily, Marvel’s massive superhero crossover has already started grabbing some early box office records of its own.
