Black Sails’ Toby Stephens joins Michael Bay’s Benghazi thriller
Black Sails star Toby Stephens has been cast in a key role in Michael Bay’s Benghazi thriller 13 Hours. He joins an ever-growing host of dudes—including John Krasinski, David Denman, James Badge Dale, Max Martini, and Pornstache—in Bay’s take on the 2012 attacks on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.
Stephens will portray Glen “Bub” Doherty, a GRS officer in Tripoli who is good friends with Krasinski’s Navy SEAL character. This suggests that Stephens won’t be a member of the security team officially tasked with protecting the U.S. compound and CIA annex. But we’re sure Bay will still give him a lot of masculine things to do, like chewing with his mouth open, manspreading on public benches, and wearing a tank top while standing in harsh lighting so that the audience can appreciate his delts.
Even if this film is somehow one long explosion, it still promises to boost Stephens’ star power. Besides Black Sails, the actor’s highest-profile credit thus far has been as the villain in Die Another Day—but since everyone has spent the last decade or so pretending that movie doesn’t exist, let’s just call this the actor’s first big film role.
