Black Strobe call up cowboy blues with Going Back Home
Black Strobe’s tunes featured prominently in trailers for two of the biggest and best movies of the past few years: Django Unchained and The Wolf Of Wall Street. As such, it makes perfect, cross-media sense that The A.V. Club would premiere the group’s new EP, Going Back Home, out next week on K7. The French group started in the late ‘90s as an electronic act, helped bring electroclash to the masses in the ‘00s, and has released more than a dozen albums since. Its latest musical turn is toward American blues and cowboy rock, though, something that’s reflected in the stream below. It’s a little Depeche Mode, a little Nick Cave, and some Johnny Cash, but all surprisingly dancey, something that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone familiar with the band’s back catalog.
