Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke announces new solo album, new song “Streets Been Talkin’”

Kele Okereke, frontman of the British indie-rock band Bloc Party, has announced Fatherland, his third solo album. It will be released on October 6 and feature contributions from Corinne Bailey Rae and Olly Alexander of the electronica band Years & Years. Unsurprisingly, given the title, this is the first album Okereke has recorded since becoming a dad in 2016 and the event has shaped his new songs. In contrast to the chilly electronic pop of his last solo effort, 2014’s Trick, Okereke names the likes of Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, and Al Green as chief among Fatherland’s influences.

To accompany the album announcement, the singer also shared a new song, “Streets Been Talkin’.” A plucky acoustic number that pairs Okereke’s emotive vocals with Balkan folk, it’s the second track we’ve heard off of Fatherland, the first being the similarly stripped-down “Yemaya,” which was released in April.
