Blue Ivy Carter is youngest person to ever appear on a Billboard chart
Ah, the first few magical days of an infant’s life. Exhausted, exhilarated parents marvel as their tiny offspring eat, sleep, poop, cry, and—if the parents in question are Beyonce and Jay-Z—break the occasional world record. A credited verse by newborn Blue Ivy Carter in “Glory” makes Babyonce the youngest person ever to appear on a Billboard chart, at all of five days old.
“Wicked-ass little Bey,” Jay-Z murmurs on his new track, a musical love letter to the littlest Carter. “Hard not to spoil you rotten, you look like little me.” And sure enough, the doting new dad takes spoilage to a whole new level. That’s a hell of a first birthday gift, Jigga.
The infant’s cameo doesn’t appear until the final minute of the song, which appears on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at No. 74 for the week of Jan. 21. Her coos and cries, reportedly recorded just moments after her birth, are laid over a soft, bluesy slow-jam piano riff. She’s clearly got Mom’s pipes, but we’ll have to wait and see whether Blue Ivy inherited the filthy rhyme skills from her old man Hov. [via Vulture]
