HBO has, not surprisingly, issued a second season order to Boardwalk Empire, mere minutes after Nielsen numbers confirmed that its premiere was a hit: 4.8 million viewers tuned in to see the Martin Scorsese-directed debut, making for the network’s highest-rated debut for an original series in six years. We suppose we could take the network’s word that the last show to premiere this big was Deadwood, but instead let us comically presume that they’re referring to the time Arli$$ became an overnight sensation. Oh, the mirth!
