Bob Dylan, Chance The Rapper, The Weeknd headline fan-curated Firefly Music Festival
As has been pointed out many times, most music festivals tend to pull from a similar crop of bands, often making it seem as if they are all the same. And while there’s some truth to that, the announcement of Dover, Delaware’s Firefly Music Festival certainly elicited some sideways glances. For one, Bob Dylan is one of the headliners, and while he certainly merits top billing, he’s also not really known for taking part in such things. His fellow headliners split the difference between rap and rock, with The Weeknd and Chance The Rapper being positioned alongside Music and Twenty One Pilots. Similarly, scrolling through the festival‘s poster reveals plenty of other disparate pairings: Lil Dicky and Ok Go, Flume and 30 Seconds To Mars, Phantogram and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
The question of how such a bill came together is answered in an interview with Christiane Pheil, the Creative Programming Director and Talent Strategist for the Firefly Music Festival, which can be found on Consequence Of Sound. There Pheil states that the bill was completely fan-curated, putting the booking power in the hands of the people. And with that power the people booked DJ Jazzy Jeff.
The Firefly music festival takes place June 15-18 and passes are on sale now.
